Alta van der Merwe the senior chic at Charitychics SA started off as a primary school teacher at a small farm school in the Tsitsikamma. She progressed to full time art teacher for kids and adults at the then Technical College in Russel Road Port Elizabeth.

She followed her husband who had joined the SA Defence Force  to Pretoria where she became part of a group of women who were the very first to be trained as officers in the SA Air Force. As a Lieutenant, Alta headed up the Defence Force recruiting and art department.  During this time she did a stint on the border and it was at one of their recruiting drives at a major shopping centre in Pretoria that she decided to accept the position as Public Relations Officer for Anglo American at the then Verwoerdburgstad now Centurion Shopping Centre, where she arranged huge events and promotions that included Fashion Shows, holiday programs and running a very big children’s club.

The family moved back to Port Elizabeth and Alta took up the position as Public Relations Officer at Pier 14 Shopping Centre. One of the first major events she organised there was Red Nose Day and Alta succeeded in getting the centre onto SABC 2 and creating foot traffic exceeding 60 000+  potential shoppers.

After arranging many fundraisers as part of her promotional and eventing calendar Alta realized that her true passion lay with fundraising for older persons. Many years of research, courses and practical hands on experience in this field led to the decision of passing on these skills to emerging and seasoned fundraisers. Polishing up her skills in the social media field led to her association with Port Elizabeth’s hash Tag Queen Sam Posselt and Charitychics SA became a reality.

Miranda Paulsen the events chic at Charitychics SA started her career at the Department of Correctional Services where she was chosen as Women of the Year. More accolades followed as her career progressed to the ACVV where she was awarded Best National Social Worker and more recently Networker of the year of the Business Network Institute of the Eastern Cape.

She was the Regional Representative Eastern Cape of the ACVV where she supervised 8 ACVV Branches, several Old Age homes, Service Centres for the Aged and Crèches. As regional manager she was also co-responsible for  fundraising, marketing and events.

She then progressed to Director of the EP Child and Youth Centre for several years and apart from her duties as director she was very involved in arranging many fundraising events with her staff. Miranda has always been a hands on leader and has no problem with rolling up her sleeves and fetching and carrying as hard as the next one.

At present she lectures at NMMU where she is contract lecturer and campus supervisor of the 1st,  3rd  and 4th year students.  UNISA also contracted her as a 4th year workshop facilitator.

She is also the Senior Social worker for MES where she does counselling, take-ins and co-ordinates the holistic developmental programme to change the Heart of the City and bring back hope and dignity to many people who would otherwise be living in the streets.  Here she is also involved in events and fundraising.

As a longstanding friend of Alta the senior Charity chic, the two ladies have collaborated and organised many events together. From the very traditional to the most innovative. Sharing their passion for the upliftment of those in need.
